PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Buckmiller, Columbia (Senior, CF, Englewood, N.J.)
Buckmiller has started every game for the Lions this season and is averaging .562. In 32 at-bats, he has 18 hits, 12 of which were for extra bases. He has hit a career-high six homers already this year and has driven in 18 runs (just one off his career best). He is leading the team in every offensive category. Against Ohio, he was four-of-five in the Light Blue’s 16-14 victory over the Bobcats with two home runs, three runs scored and seven RBI.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ben Crockett, Harvard (Senior, RHP, Topsfield, Mass.)
In Crockett’s first outing of the year, the senior struck out six batters and held the No.4 Rice Owls to only seven hits. Ranked nationally in the Baseball America poll, Rice (18-4) was held to only two runs. The Crimson lost the game, 2-1, as Crockett pitched eight innings and walked only two batters.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Cameron Mitchell, Brown (Freshman, C/DH, Apex, N.C.)
The rookie provided some offensive firepower for the Bears in their first six games. Mitchell is hitting .364 with one home run and a .727 slugging percentage. In a 4-1 loss to High Point, he was 2-of-3 with a double. In a 16-3 victory at North Carolina A&T, Mitchell was 1-of-2 as he launched the first homer of his collegiate career.
HONOR ROLL
Craig Breslow (Yale, LHP, Senior, Trumbull, Conn.)
Against Northern Iowa, Breslow pitched eight innings, allowing five hits and one run. He recorded four strikeouts.
Pat Dowling (Dartmouth, RHP, Sophomore, Holyoke, Mass.)
Dowling pitched eight shutout innings in Dartmouth’s 7-0 win against Bucknell. He allowed only four hits and two walks, striking out three.
Eric Fitzgerald (Princeton, CF, Sophomore, Bellaire, Tex.)
The starting centerfielder is hitting .370 through the Tigers’ first six games. He is 10-for-27 with two doubles, six runs scored and four RBI. He was two-for-five with a home run, four RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in the 11-9 win over Duke.
Mark Mager (Harvard, SS, Senior, Middletown, N.J.)
Mager posted two hits in each of Harvard’s three games against Rice. He scored a run in the season opener against the Owls, and then scored the Crimson’s lone run in a 2-1 loss to Rice.
Andrew McCreery (Penn, RHP/INF, Junior, Solana Beach, Calif.)
McCreery has started the season with a .429 average (18-for-42) as the Quakers opened their spring season. He hit a game-winning home run in the top of the ninth to give Penn its first win of the season, 10-9, over Eckerd. He was also the lone Quaker named to the Rollins Baseball Week All-Tournament team. McCreery also recorded nine extra base hits, seven doubles and drove in 13 runs, while scoring 12 others.
Brian McKitish (Columbia, RHP, Junior, Trenton, N.J.)
McKitish leads the team in innings pitched with 15.1 and strikeouts with 11. He is currently 1-2 on the season with a 5.87 ERA.
Brendan McQuaid (Cornell, RHP, Senior, Titusville, N.J.)
McQuaid earned his first win of the year with an eight inning, eight strikeout performance versus Chicago State.
Scott Shirrell (Dartmouth, LF, Sophomore, Portland, Maine)
In four games for the Big Green, Shirrell went seven-for-16, including two doubles and four RBI. He had an on base percentage of .500.
Jonathan Stern (Brown, RHP, Senior, Long Valley, N.J.)
Stern has recorded a 2-0 record with a 3.46 ERA in two starts. In the 2-1 victory over the Panthers, the senior scattered eight hits in six innings of work while only allowing one run. In his first start at North Carolina A&T, he went seven innings, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out four.
Justin Walters (Yale, 1B, Junior, Pensacola, Fla.)
Walters started all seven games at first base playing great defense. He had two doubles, scoring five runs, knocking in two runs and 10 total bases.
BROWN

The Bears start the season 4-2 as they took three of four games at North Carolina A&T and split a double header with High Point ... Senior pitcher Jonathan Stern (Long Valley, N.J.) is 2-0 for the Bears with a 3.46 ERA after his two starts of the season ... He picked up his second victory of the season as the Bears defeated the Panthers 2-1 ... The senior scattered eight hits in six innings of work while only allowing one run ... Last season, Stern recorded a 1.92 ERA ... Freshman outfielder James Lowe (Asheboro, N.C.) had an impressive first weekend of the season at North Carolina A&T ... Lowe batted .444, going four-for-nine with a double, triple, and his first collegiate home run ... The freshman finished the weekend with a team-high eight RBI ... Brown has five players hitting .300 or higher: Shaun Gallagher (West Chester, Pa.) (.364), Cameron Mitchell (Apex, N.C.) (.364), Matt Kutler (Omaha, Neb.) (.348), Rick Lynn (Towaco, N.J.) (.318) and Lowe (.308) ... The Bears have scored 47 runs in six games for an average of 7.8 runs per game ... Junior Dan Spring (Washington, D.C.)earned his first save of the season by retiring the side in order in the bottom of the seventh inning in the victory over High Point ... Freshman pitcher Eli Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned his first win of the season by going six innings, allowing three runs and striking out six against the Aggies.

Senior Matt Buckmiller (Englewood, N.J.) is breaking personal records and getting his name all over the Columbia All-Time record book ... In the Lions’ first six games, the centerfielder had six home runs, which surpasses his career-best and places him in the top five for the category, just eight off Gene Larkin’s school best 25 ... With his 18 RBI, he is just one away from his career-best and two away from breaking into the top 10 for that statistic ... With six doubles so far on the season, he has moved into a tie for second with B. Teal CC ‘95 for two-base hits with 35 ... The outfielder has also moved into the top 10 in runs scored with 102 (fifth), total bases with 218 (fifth) and hits with 126 (eighth) ... In the Lions’ come from behind, 16-14, victory over Ohio University, senior Derek Johnson (Pompton Plains, N.J.) came into the game in the top of the eighth and hit a pinch hit three run homer to give Columbia the 15-13 lead ... The Light Blue had battled back from a seven-run deficit to claim the first game against the Bobcats ... In the game, Columbia had three other round-trippers including two from Buckmiller and another from junior Joe Catsam (Massapequa, N.Y.).
CORNELL

Cornell split its opening games on its annual spring trip, defeating Chicago State, 12-1, and then falling, 9-8, to Wisconsin-Milwaukee ... Vince Santo (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) led the Big Red in the win, going three-for-four at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI ... Against Wisconsin, Paul Hudson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was the only player to have more than one hit in the game, going two-for-three ... Erik Rico (Miami, Fla.) and Flint Foley (Big Flats, N.Y.) both scored twice ... The Big Red were defeated by Florida Atlantic, 18-7 ... Andrew Luria (McLean, Va.) and Justin Irizarry (Miami, Fla.) both doubled in the contest ... Cornell is currently on its spring trip in Florida ... The team did see action in six games prior to its departure, playing against Bucknell and Lafayette.

Freshman pitcher Michael Madson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) made his first collegiate appearance for the Big Green against the Fighting Illini ... He pitched five innings, allowing nine runs on 12 hits ... Dartmouth fell to Illinois, 14-1, gaining its lone run in the seventh inning ... Patrick Nailer (Toronto, Ont.) ripped a single in his first at-bat of the season, moved to second when the rightfielder bobbled the ball, and went to third on a single by rookie catcher Jeff Speights (San Diego, Calif.) ... Nailer would score the run on a hit by Josh Bailey (Lexington, Ken.) ... In the win over the Catamounts, eight of the nine hitters in the lineup had at least one base hit as the Big Green defeated Vermont, 11-10 ...The Big Green scored twice in the third, cutting the lead to 5-3, before exploding for seven runs in the fourth ... Junior Tom Hackney (East Lansing, Mich.) led the way with a two run homer, the first fourbagger of the season for the Big Green ... Derek Draper (Patterson, Calif.), Scott Shirrell (Portland, Maine), Mike Mileusnic (Wichita, Kan.) and Josh Cushman (Augusta, Maine) also had RBI hits in the inning.

PENNSYLVANIA
