The Ivy League had four players selected in the 2006 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, which wrapped up Wednesday afternoon after 50 rounds and 1,502 selections.

Dartmouth led the way with two players selected in pitcher Josh Faiola, the first Ivy player selected, and outfielder Will Bashelor.

Faiola, a senior, was drafted in the 32nd round in 2005 but returned for his senior season and went in the 24th round on Wednesday, 715th overall, to the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles were also the team that drafted him in ’05. Faiola was a first team All-Ivy selection in 2006 after posting a 6-2 overall record and a League-best 2.45 ERA. He was named the Big Green MVP and Pitcher of the Year.

Bashelor was also a first team All-Ivy pick in 2006. The only junior among those Leaguers selected Wednesday, Bashelor led Dartmouth in batting average, slugging percentage, doubles, triples and stolen bases this past season. He is just nine stolen bases shy of breaking the Big Green’s school record for steals and was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Bashelor was taken in the 28th round by the New York Mets, just 13 spots after Cornell senior right-hander Rocky Collis went to the Seattle Mariners. Collis went 2-4 with a 3.15 ERA as a junior and 3-3 with a 4.65 ERA this past season. The Big Red co-captain also had 41 strikeouts in 53.1 innings pitched and finished his four-year career with 156 strikeouts in 183 innings.

Harvard outfielder Lance Salsgiver went after Bashelor. Salsgiver, a senior from Harvard, was taken by the San Francisco Giants in the 37th round. Salsgiver, a second team All-Ivy pick in 2006, led the Crimson with a .342 batting average during the year and added four home runs, 18 RBI and 37 runs scored.

The final Leaguer selected was Yale senior pitcher Jon Hollis, who went in the 38th round to the Texas Rangers. Hollis went 4-2 with an 8.15 ERA as a senior and finished his career at 13-10 overall with a 5.03 ERA and 144 strikeouts in 202 innings pitched.
