Princeton Ranked 10th in the Second Division I Directors' Cup Standings for the 2010-11 Season

CLEVELAND -- Princeton ranked 10th among the Division I institions in the second fall Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings.

The Tigers are in 19th place with 184 points, just one point behind ninth-place Duke, after finishing fifth in women’s field hockey, 12th in men’s cross country, 15th in women’s cross country and 33rd in men's soccer.

With six NCAA championships completed, North Carolina has taken over the top spot in the second set of Division I fall standings. The Tar Heels lead with 285 points after finishing third in men’s soccer and placing ninth in women’s soccer.

Just 23 points separate the next four institutions with Florida State now sitting in second
place with 253 points. The Seminoles added 73 points to their total after a fifth place showing in women’s soccer.

The Cardinal of Stanford are in the third place spot after finishing second in women’s soccer
and increasing its point total to 246. Virginia is currently in fourth place with 244 points after placing ninth in women’s soccer and 33rd in men’s soccer. Rounding out the top-five is Ohio State. The Buckeyes finished third in women’s soccer and ninth in men’s soccer, bringing their point total to 230.

Six of the eight fall NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions
capturing titles: men’s cross country - Oklahoma State; women’s cross country – Villanova
(Pa.); women’s field hockey – Maryland; women’s soccer – Notre Dame; men’s soccer –
Akron; men’s water polo – Southern California.      
 
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women’s and 10 men’s.  
 
The next Division I standings will be released Thursday, December 23.
