Princeton Field Hockey to Meet Wake Forest in NCAA First Round

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The sixth-ranked Princeton field hockey team learned it would face 13th-ranked Wake Forest in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Field Hockey Tournament when the tournament field was announced on Tuesday night. Princeton is in the regional hosted by the tournament's third seed, Virginia. The Tigers will play Wake Forest at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13.
Princeton is currently 13-4 overall on the season and has been ranked between third and sixth in the NFHCA Coaches Poll all season. Princeton has also ranked high in the RPI throughout the season. Princeton was a perfect 7-0 in the Ivy League and ran the Ivy table for the third season in a row to earn the League's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament field.
Princeton will meet Wake Forest in the opening round of the NCAA tournament in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The other game taking place in Charlottesville pits third-ranked Virginia against 11th-ranked Michigan State.
The Tigers are making their 15th trip to the NCAA tournament and are 17-14 overall. Princeton has reached the NCAA quarterfinals in each of the last two seasons and advanced to the semifinals a season ago.
Princeton was 2-4 against tournament teams this season, earning wins over the tournament's top seed Maryland and its fourth seed Syracuse. Connecticut, American, Penn State and Virginia defeated Princeton. Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Penn State are the tournament's four host sites.
