PRINCETON, N.J. -- USA Field Hockey has announced its roster for the Pan American Games and it includes Princeton's Katie Reinprecht, Julia Reinprecht and Michelle Cesan. October's Pan Am Games will serve as the first opportunity for the U.S. to qualify for the 2012 Olympics.

The trio, along with Princeton teammate Kathleen Sharkey and former Tiger Maren Ford were among the 27 players chosen for the National Squad over the summer. From that larger group, a roster of 16 was chosen on Tuesday for the Pan American Games. Sharkey and Ford were named alternates for the Pan Am Games. The announcement came following a test series with New Zealand last week in California.

The XVI Pan American Games will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico from October 19-28. The women's field hockey tournament will include the U.S., Argentina, Barbados, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago. The Pan American Games are held every four years and represent the first opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games. Only the gold medalist will earn the ticket to the Olympic Games.

However, in the event that USA does not claim gold, there is still hope at fulfilling an Olympic dream. From early January to May of 2012, there are three tournaments held in Belgium, India and Japan. The USA will be permitted to attend one of these events for their second and final attempt to become a part of the Olympics.
