PRINCETON, N.J. -- Penn sophomore guard Alyssa Baron (Miami, Fla.) and Princeton junior forward Niveen Rasheed (Danville, Calif.) were named Ivy League Co-Players of the Week while Columbia freshman guard (Los Angeles) earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Baron earned her second-straight Player of the Week award after posting 30 points in a 66-57 win over Rider on Nov. 19. She shot 11-of-19 from the floor (57.9 percent), 3-of-6 from downtown and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Baron also recorded five rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal. She leads the League in scoring, averaging 28.5 points per game.

Rasheed led Princeton to a 2-0 week, with wins over Lafayette and Villanova. The junior averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in the two games while shooting 5 3.3 percent from the field (16-of-30). The Tigers’ win over Villanova was their first victory over a Big East opponent since 1997 and the first defeat of a Big East foe by an Ivy League team since Dec. 29, 2006, when Yale beat Providence, 68-55. VU came in to their game against Princeton in the receiving votes category in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls.

Tachibana became the second-straight Lion to earn Rookie of the Week honors after Amara Mbionwu took home the award on Nov. 14. In Columbia’s only game last week, Tachibana led the team with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting. She went 3-of-4 from the charity stripe and recorded two assists, one rebound and one steal.
