Tennis Teams Begin NCAA Championship Play

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Ivy League tennis is back on the courts this weekend with Yale on the women's side and Columbia and Harvard on the men's side competing in the 2012 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships.
Yale hits the courts Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Saint Mary's (Calif.) at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the campus of Stanford University. The host Cardinal, the No. 4 national seed, takes on Stony Brook in the other first-round match. The first-round winners are scheduled to meet in a second-round tilt on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Ironically in the men's bracket, Harvard and Columbia face a team from the state of Virginia on the same date at the same time in the first round. At 9 a.m. on Saturday, Harvard takes on Virginia Tech in Gainesville, Fla., while Columbia clashes with Virginia Commonwealth in Charlottesville, Va.
The other first-round match in Harvard's bracket pits Navy against host, No. 12 Florida at Noon. The first-round winners are set to square off Sunday, May 13 at 2 p.m. In Columbia's bracket, host Virginia, the tournament's overall No. 3 seed, faces Fairleigh Dickinson in the other first-round match. Their first-round winners are scheduled to meet in the second round on Sunda at Noon.
