PRINCETON, N.J. -- Yale ran its Ivy League winning streak to 19 straight matches with a sweep of Penn and Princeton, while Harvard and Brown sit in second, two back in the Ivy League standings.
The Bulldogs own the third-longest active conference winning streak in the country behind Morehead State, winners of 28 straight Ohio Valley Conference matches, and LIU Brooklyn, which has won 24 straight Northeast Conference matches. Yale did see its run of consecutive Ivy League sets won end at 20 straight sets on Friday night when Penn won the third set in Yale's 3-1 win.
Sophomore Kelly Johnson had back-to-back triple-doubles for the Bulldogs. She had 14 kills, 16 digs and 18 assists on Friday night against Penn. The Palos Verdes, Calif. native followed that up with 13 kills, 14 digs and 13 assists against Princeton on Saturday. All the while, Johnson hit .345 on the weekend.
Harvard defeated Cornell and Columbia at home to move to 3-2 in Ivy play. The Crimson defeated Cornell 3-1 on Friday and swept Columbia on Saturday. Corinne Bain had a pair of double-doubles and narrowly missed a triple-double again last weekend for the Crimson.
They are tied with Brown for second place. The Bears split on the weekend, defeating Princeton in five sets on Friday night but falling to Penn, 3-0, on Saturday. The win over Princeton ended Brown's 12-match losing skid against the Tigers dating back to Oct. 20, 2006.
Penn's Dani Sheppard continues to climb the Ivy's career record list for digs. Now with 1,552, she has moved into ninth place all-time, passing Dartmouth's Amber Bryant in Saturday's win at Brown. Sheppard ranks No. 36 in career digs among active players nationally.
This weekend, Ancient Eight squads continue their traditional Friday-Saturday slates. All eight matches from around the League will be streamed on The Ivy League® Digital Network and can be watched simulataneously with the network's quad-view screen.
